Cyrus II (''the Great,'' 559-530 B.C.) was the founder of the Achaemenid Persian Empire that continued for two centuries until the time of Alexander the Great (331 B.C.). Daniel (who lived until the third year of Cyrus) presented Cyrus with the writings of Isaiah that includes a letter addressed to Cyrus by name, written 150 years earlier: Isaiah 44:27 - 45:7.
