Author: Jewish scholarship has credited Jeremiah with writing/compiling the book that is now 1 and 2 Kings. Jeremiah was descended from the priestly line of Abiathar and likely had access to historical and theological source materials.
Date: The books of Kings were written between 560 and 538/539 B.C. between the release of Jehoichin in 2 Kings 25:27-30 and the return of Judah from exile.
1 and 2 Kings were originally one book, which was split into two books because of its length. The first book of Kings gives a chronological overview of the history of the kings of Israel from the end of David's life, to the death of Jehoshaphat.
