This was one of the best conferences the Institute has sponsored, and the information presented by the speakers was so rich that you have to hear and see it for yourself.
Last October, the Koinonia Institute (KI) held its annual Strategic Perspectives conference at its U.S. Headquarters in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. The first two days of the four-day-long schedule of activities consisted of a series of topical workshops exclusively for Institute members. Later, a special ceremony was given at the Kroc Center in Coeur d’Alene, recognizing the new Bronze and Silver Medallion holders of the Institute as well the “Spyglass Awards,” recognizing individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the Institute over the past year. Chuck also announced the establishment of three new councils for the Institute. These councils—Berean, Issachar, and Koinonos—are led by the students in the Institute and will advise the current Council of Elders as to the future direction of the Institute.
The conference itself was kicked off by a dinner with Joseph Farah, the President and Founder of WorldNetDaily. Joseph gave us his insights on the current political climate, and later Chuck joined Joseph for a fascinating Q&A session.
Friday night’s first speaker was David Barton. David is the Founder and President of WallBuilders, a national pro-family organization that emphasizes our moral, religious and constitutional heritage. He is also the signature historian of The Founders’ Bible. During his presentation titled, “Keeping the Truth in History,” David reminded us that the Bible admonishes us to “Remember the Former Days.” He also addressed four ways that modern “scholarship” has rewritten the history being taught in our schools using four techniques: Poststructuralism, Modernism, Academic Collectivism, and Deconstructionism. One example he used was the inaccuracies being taught about Thomas Jefferson. A fascinating study worth researching in itself.
Next on the program was Jonathan Cahn, President of Hope of the World Ministries and author of the best-selling book, The Harbinger: The Ancient Mystery That Holds the Secret of America’s Future. Jonathan’s presentation was based on his book, in which the mystery of America’s future seems to line up with prophetic passages from the Bible with nine harbingers—warnings of God’s ultimate judgment—on the country.
Donald Perkins was our next speaker. Donald is the founder and president of According to Prophecy Ministries. He presented “Jerusalem: A Cup of Trembling,” which examined the centerpiece of end-time scenario. He exposed several of the myths surrounding modern-day Israel and its enemies. For example, he showed that during the time of the Diaspora, there was never a Palestinian State declared in its place; Jerusalem was never the capital of any Arab state; and, there never was a Palestinian identity, culture, or language.
Dan Stolebarger is the Executive Director of Koinonia Institute. During his session he addressed the controversial subject of the urgency for Christian Zionists today. Dan asked the group questions that every Christian should be prepared to answer. Does Israel have a right to the land? Does Israel have a destiny? Do you believe in Genesis 12:1–3? Does the Church have a duty in regards to Israel? Dan’s love for Israel showed through in his words, and if you missed his presentation, you missed a powerful witness for God’s chosen people.
Ron Matsen is the Director of Lyonshead Media. Ron and his family recently moved to New Zealand to work with Chuck in establishing the production house for Koinonia House and Koinonia Institute, based at the River Lodge. Ron presented a session on the impact of Replacement Theology of the Church in the world. Replacement Theology states that Israel (its people and land) has been replaced by the Church and that the Jewish people are no longer God’s chosen people. Ron used Scriptural references to refute these claims and show that both the Old and New Testaments support the fact that God has a future plan for Israel and that God’s chosen people have a special role during the Millennial reign of Christ.
Mati Shoshani was born and raised in the Jerusalem area, a second generation Israeli Messianic Jewish believer. He is the Chief Operating Officer of the Jerusalem Institute of Justice, an organization dedicated to advancing freedom of religion, civil rights and social justice in Israel through public, legal and social advocacy. In his presentation, “Israel’s New Threats,” Mati spoke of the threats the State of Israel is facing, with an emphasis on things related to an Israeli point of view. He spoke of Israel’s internal threats: the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Arab terrorism, and foreign interests on Israel. He ended with a call to prayer—a prayer for peace for Israel and a call to all of us to get the truth out about Israel to our friends, neighbors, and the world.
Joseph Farah was next on the program. Joseph founded, in May 1997, WorldNetDaily.com, a leading Internet news site in both traffic and influence. Joseph is a Strategic Perspectives conference favorite, and his presentations are always informative and insightful. This night he built on Jonathan Cahn’s presentation with a talk titled, “After the Harbinger,” which expanded on Jonathan’s talk and showed how God is speaking to America today through the ancient writings of Isaiah.
Next up was Aaron Klein. Aaron is a New York Times best-selling author, reporter for WorldNetDaily, Jewish Press columnist, and host of Aaron Klein Investigative Radio on New York’s WABC Radio, the country’s biggest talk radio station. His radio show is heard by over one million listeners and is currently the #2 rated weekend radio show in America. He presented a session titled, “Obama and the Muslim Brotherhood Spring,” which was both informative and controversial. Aaron gave us an update on the news, particularly about the attack on U.S. personnel in Benghazi. (Contrary to news reports, the building that was attacked was not the American Consulate; there never has been one in Benghazi.) The facts he presented changed the way many people viewed the attack. Aaron said these facts help explain why the Obama administration misled the public from the start. His talk presented the tie between the Muslim Brotherhood and Al-Qaeda with the attack, as well as their being a part of a greater plan for a one-world government.
Chuck Missler closed the conference by expanding on a presentation he gave at a recent Weekend Study Retreat in New Zealand titled, “Weathering the Coming Storm”. It was a summary of the global, national, family, and personal aspects of persevering through the tough times ahead. (Weekly Intelligence Updates can be seen at the Institute’s website: www.studycenter.com) Drawing on his knowledge of the corporate world and finance, Chuck painted a sobering picture of what lies in store for America and the world. He also gave us a suggested action plan. Chuck challenged us to find out what the Bible says about our environment today and to find out what is really going on.
