Morality v. Homosexuality: Who Is Winning The Culture War?

While homosexuality is still considered immoral by millions of Americans, the gay activism of the past several decades has succeeded in wearing away some of the stigma associated with same-sex sexual behavior. That activism works its way into the lives of everyday Americans not only through the media, but through anti-discrimination laws as well. Those groups and organizations that continue to take a moral stand against homosexuality face persistent battles.
The House of Representatives
On May 3, the House of Representatives voted 237-180 to include "sexual orientation" in the list of characteristics protected by hate crimes legislation. The bill, known as the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2007 (H.R.1592), must still pass the Senate and be signed into law by the President before it can become law. It was referred to the Senate Committee on the Judiciary on May 7.
The Boy Scouts
The Boy Scouts are being badgered once again for their stand against homosexuality. Last week, the Philadelphia City Council voted to kick a local Boy Scouts group from their headquarters, held rent-free since the 1920s. The eviction is conditional, however. A spokesman for the city council argued that the Boy Scouts of America's Cradle of Liberty Council (COL) would not have to move if they either:
a) reversed their position against homosexuality and allowed openly gay members
b) paid the fair market price to rent the facilities.
Philadelphia City Solicitor Romulo Diaz argued that it isn't fair to let the Boy Scouts remain on the premises at the tax payers' expense if the Boy Scouts stick to their policy of not admitting openly homosexual men as leaders. The Boy Scouts had already agreed to adopt the wording of the city's anti-discrimination policy by not engaging in "illegal discrimination." According to the US Supreme Court, however, it is not illegal for the Boy Scouts to discriminate against gays.
The Boy Scouts of America won an important freedom of expressive association case in 2000, when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the government could not force the Boy Scouts to admit avowed homosexuals as leaders. The Supreme Court, however, did not protect the Boy Scouts from activism in the name of "gay rights."
eHarmony
A California woman is suing eHarmony, an online dating service, because it does not cater to people seeking a same-sex match. eHarmony matches couples based on a wide range of compatibility characteristics.
"The research eHarmony has developed, through years of research, to match couples has been based on traits and personality patterns of successful heterosexual marriages. Nothing precludes us from providing same-sex matching in the future. It's just not a service we offer now based upon the research we have conducted," eHarmony said in a statement.
If eHarmony loses, they may be forced to develop a program that matches same-sex couples.
California
The California Senate passed a pro-homosexual bill last week, intending to indoctrinate school children from kindergarten onwards to regard homosexuality and other gender issues as normal. The bill is meant to treat all alternative sexual lifestyles as positive and healthy, and to avoid the traditional family as the preferred model.
Schools will not need to get parental permission before teaching students about gender-identity issues, and schools will be required to conform.
"The notion of forcing children to support controversial sexual lifestyles is shocking and appalling to millions of fathers and mothers," explained Randy Thomasson, president of Campaign for Children and Families. "Parents don't want their children taught to become homosexual or bisexual or to wonder whether they need a sex-change operation. SB 777 will shatter the academic purpose of education by turning every government school into a sexual indoctrination center."
Conclusion
While there has been tacit acceptance of homosexuality under an onslaught of gay rights activism over the past fifty years, there is still no truly scientific evidence that homosexuality is inborn or genetic. At the same time, there are many people who feel homosexual attraction against their will. Nobody is beyond the power and love of God to heal, and often the love of God is the only thing that can heal these individuals. But, despite the gay rights fanfare, we know that the Word of God never changes:
Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. - 1 Cor 6:9-11
