The term “Antichrist” is the most common appellation that fills thousands of books and speculations about his origin, his nature, his agenda, and his destiny.
When God declared war on the Nachash—the “shining one” in the Garden of Eden, God mentioned two seeds:
And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
(“Bruise” is the Hebrew word, shoof, meaning to bruise, or crush.) The “Seed of the Woman” thus becomes one of the identifying titles of the Messiah—the One who would redeem mankind from their predicament.

(The term “Antichrist” is actually a strange choice for the popular appellation since it is only used by John, and in a very specific context. Yet when John pens the Book of Revelation, he uses numerous alternatives for this dominant figure; but never “Antichrist.” Furthermore, remember it’s a duet.)
The various aspects and details of this dominant figure pervade every corner of eschatology, and this has yielded no shortage of speculations and presumptions. There is hardly a person on the Planet Earth who hasn’t pondered the mysterious “666”, which alone has spawned volumes of suggested implications and inferences, from bar codes, RFID chips inserted under the skin, and various totalitarian forms of economic control.
A Comparative Study
It is very provocative and illuminating to explore, compare, and contrast the various expectations of the Antichrist by the many diverse groups who are now currently anticipating his appearance:
- The composite Biblical View: as a foundational summary of the principal Texts which form the background and directly comment on this dominant player (and his associated “False Prophet”. Remember, it’s a duet.)
- The Islamic View: a view which incorporates the Muslim versions of Jesus (both Sunni and Shia) and the very distinct dramas they expect.
- The Vatican View: a surprising perspective from inside the Roman Catholic Church itself. Is it relevant that many believe we now have the “last pope”? And how is it relevant that he is the first Jesuit pope in history? And, why are they now openly preparing to officially receive an Alien? What’s been going on at Mount Graham in southeastern Arizona?
- The Transhumanist View: relying on the astonishing strides in genetics, robotics, nanotechnologies, and artificial intelligence, these brilliant practitioners are relying on a technological path toward immortality and “God-hood,” which is ostensibly now drawing close at hand.
- The Freemasons: with a highly secretive and surprising perspective of America’s role in ushering in the “New Atlantis.” (Be sure you really understand the secrets behind the Great Seal on your dollar bill. Don’t be misled by the deliberate disinformation commonly promoted. And don’t presume that their “Great Architect of the Universe” is the God whom we worship!)
And who are the Edomites (today)? This group is singled out for the most extreme judgment of all the groups detailed in the Old Testament. Are they the ones labeled as “the synagogue of Satan” by the Lord Himself in his seven epistles? As diligent students of the Word of God, it is essential for us to understand who they are and what eschatological implications they may have on our present geopolitical horizon.
