The River Lodge

As many of you know, K-House has several offices around the world, including the U.S. office in Coeur d’Alene, ID; our EU office in Portsmouth, England; our Canadian office in Cranbrook, BC; and, our African office in Benoni, South Africa. Last month we opened our South Pacific office in New Zealand.

Over the years we have been overwhelmed by the favor the Lord has shown in New Zealand, and Nan and I have also felt a personal connection to this small country and its people. While the Coeur d’Alene office will continue to be the world-wide hub of K-House and its production center, we see some unique opportunities for our New Zealand office that we wanted to share with you.

We have acquired an ongoing business and property in the middle of the North Island of New Zealand called the “River Lodge” (www.riverlodge.co.nz). The Lodge will continue to operate as it has in the past, as a wedding facility and corporate retreat center, and will be somewhat of a “tent-making ministry” as we reach for our real goal, which is to create the “Koinonia Discipleship Center.”

While we will be hosting small, intimate conferences with Nan and I, as well as other speakers and teachers, our intent is to build on- site housing where Christians can come and stay for 3 - 12 months and anchor their faith and walk in a life-altering way. While taking KI classes will be an integral part of the Discipleship process, what we are really excited about is walking alongside those who are able to join us. The staff and I have had many discussions about what it means to make “disciples,” and we’ve come across a concept that I think is the closest model we have in our world today. It is that of a medical intern at a hospital.

They have a saying in this field: “Teach Once, See Once, Do Once,” and I think this is what Jesus did as the disciples watched Him interact with the world, observed what He did, and saw Truth within the context of life and not just a school-room. Jesus then called the disciples aside and taught them what He had done and why (“Teach Once”). Just like the in-tern, Jesus after teaching the disciples went back out with them and let them observe Him apply the things He had taught them (“See Once”), now with deeper understanding. And like the intern Jesus then sent the disciples out, empowering them to do likewise (“Do Once”). The disciples then came back together and were encouraged in what they did right and any errors they made were corrected.

It is our intention at the Koinonia Discipleship Center to fol-low this Biblical model. Through KI we will build a Biblical base, and then on top of that base we’ll build an understanding of how to apply that Truth by walking together. Finally, we will add experience—providing opportunities for people to step out in the specific gifting they have been given. The “Teach Once, See Once, Do Once” model is one which we believe will continue to be repeated in the believers’ lives as they endeavor to do the “foreordained good works” the Father has designed for us all.

This August 13th - 15th Nan and I will be hosting our first conference at the River Lodge. This Kingdom, Power & Glory conference (with a special prophetic update Friday night) will be limited to 38 people and will include accommodations at the Lodge and all meals from Friday night to Sunday morning.
